The vote to increase income taxes this past January was one of the most important in Illinois history. It will cost the typical family almost $1,500 by the Holidays. How did your legislator vote?
This month the Illinois Policy Institute released the mid-year installment of the 2011 Legislative Vote Card. The complete roll call of Illinois’ record tax increase is included, as are fifteen other key votes including business regulation, open government and education reform. The Illinois legislature will reconvene for a shortened fall session next week. They might consider crucial reforms to state spending, chiefly a reform of the debt-plagued pension systems for government employees.
Ask your legislators about their voting records. And ask them how they plan to vote on the issues that will shape the future of our state — pension reform, balanced budgets, and a repeal of the 2011 tax hikes. Those issues will be broached in the coming weeks and months, and they will be included in the next installment of the Illinois Policy Institute’s vote card.
We are asking all elected officials and candidates to sign a special candidate’s pledge to repeal the income tax hike. Before you give them your vote, make sure they have given us their word on repealing the income tax hike. See who has signed the pledge here.
